Saint Basil’s Cathedral

Saint Basil’s Cathedral, 2019
Lu Xue Qi, 11 years old.
Acrylic & Poster Colours on Paper. 16″ x 20″.
Xue Qi’s “Saint Basil’s Cathedral” art piece is part of the “ARTARY Fine Art 4 Experience” series.
One of world’s most visited and famous landmarks, and Moscow’s most recognisable church, the Saint Basil’s Cathedral is an important symbol of Russia. The Cathedral’s magnificent architecture captivates the eye, with its bizarre yet unusually beautiful choice of colours and designs.
Xue Qi’s art piece inspects the patterns of the Cathedral, and further explores with whimsical designs of her own. She develops upon the high contrast colours on the church’s roofs, and applies fluorescent palettes throughout. Xue Qi completed the art piece with waves and curtains of colours onto the night sky, like aurora borealis, creating an almost fantasy and mystical celebration on the 400 year old building. And on one of the roofs, unexpected crescents and stars of home.
